I love this tool. Easy to track mileage, pace, works great on trails. Even stores weather conditions. Easy to to upload for future reference.

I bought the Forerunner 205 couple weeks ago and I must say it is just awesome. So far I have been using it on premeasured laps and in completely unknown areas. The deviation is less than 0.1%. It has not once lost signal. The elevation is accurate and the virtual partner function is awesome. Whether you want to push yourself for half an hour or go for a long run: this thing is lots of fun. Not too big, locating satellites quickly, screen setting adjustable, virtual partner can push you to the limit, switch between KM and miles, calories, and lots more I haven’t even yet explored. You can also upload all your data with one click to [...] and see all your activities and paces which helps to train and improve especially during marathon preparation.
As an experienced runner you might not need a heartrate monitor like the 305 has one. The 205 is a great purchase for that price and makes me wanna run even in crappy weather. Highly recommended.

The Garmin Forerunner 305 is great for athletic applications with lap capability and time distance and pace alerts. The software is easy to use also. Setting up the alerts and autopause wasn’t easy at first, but where there is a custom option, use it and you will find it easy to tweak as you go.
Features that I’d like to see improved are the 10-hour battery life, contacts and software. Double the battery life and aside from the bulkiness, it would be practical to use it as a wristwatch as well. A feature that I am skeptical of is the exposed set of contacts on the underside of the unit that is in constant contact with your hand. I’d rather see a simple USB port with a little rubber shield. The software would be definitely improved if the many available settings could be pulled from the unit and adjusted in a more user-friendly environment than available with the buttons on the unit. This would definitely speed up the task of entering numbers into the settings and many of them take numbers.
I rarely use the heart monitor.

I had the Garmin 201 for many years and loved it. I seriously considered replacing my 201 with another but decided to upgrade to the 205.
Pros: the 205 captures and holds the satilite signal better than the 201 and doesn’t look as awkward on my wrist as the 201. It also has the option to charge on either 110 or 220V which is great if you ever travel outside of the States.
Cons: I very much prefer the velcro band of the 201 instead of the uncomfortable rubber watch band of the 205. The 205 is not as comfortable on my wrist as the 201.
Conclusion: If the 201 had the option of charging with 220V, I would have stayed with it instead of upgrading to the 205 but I love them both.
